  • Pocket Rockets.....??

Aren't worth a tuppeny damn!

    Last night: (not consecutive hands)

Hand 1 - Pocket rockets, get 2 players all in and one hits QQ to match a Q in the hole and hit a boat

Hand 2 - my deal, pocket rockets and all fold

Hand 3 pocket rockets - and ...........QQ flop to hit trips matching Q in the hole (or was it a boat? Can't remember) and stuffed again.

Hand 4 - not much money left, get all in with J,9 off-suit against Trumpin' Joe with his AK(?) flop comes *A9..I'd already given up and was suitably embarrassed when *9 dropped!

Full marks to TJ - he made no comment

But those pocket rockets??...Boy oh boy, they're killing me to death and it's happening so frequently

Early on in this morning's 6:00 am $100/$2500 added NLHE I take top pair up against a BB who had flopped a set and lose almost 1/2 my stack (extremely bad play to risk so much on top pair, 2nd kicker that early). About 2 rounds later I get AA when UTG and make a trapping raise (BB). Joy of joys when I am re-raised and I got the chance to jam pre-flop. The raiser calls and I expect to see KK but it is AQ clubs. Flop is Ace hi with one club, the turn bring the second club and I get that sinking feeling in my gut. Sure enough the river was the 3rd club and my flopped set of bullets goes down in flames.

First out to a runner-runner flush, OUCH!, but that's poker.

Why be embarrassed? Do you realise how close this was when the money went in?

        Close???

        How do you define "close?"

        It's about 65-35 for the A K - or almost 2:1 against!

Is that close enough to get all in? Or am I missing something?

when short stacked 2-1 is nearly giving you pot odds

i'd prefer to be 2-1 infront but 2-1 behind aint bad you lose you out (you are heading that way anyway) you win your back in with a stack you can now move to put you into the money.

well, it's between 3-to-2 and just under 2-to-1 depending on suits. AK being beat in a showdown is never a bad beat. It is a common occurence in every tourney.
