  • Play chip time bank

I recently noticed that poker stars has eliminated the time bank in all play chip ring games, and reduced the time bank to 5 seconds in stts and mtts.

I contacted support thinking maybe there was something wrong with my software and was told these changes were made because of complaints from players.

If you would like a time bank I suggest that you write support yourself to be heard in this matter, I suggested a 20 second time bank across the board as a reasonable compromise, but of course your honest opinion is best.

I will post their reply and mine so you have a better understanding of what is going on. I hope this is a constructive post to help make poker stars good for everybody.

    > Based on player feedback, we have recently made several changes to our play money game offering.
    >
    > Most notably, the Time Bank has now been removed from all our ring game tables. In addition to this, Time Banks for play money Sit & Go and Multi Table Tournaments will now be 5 seconds, while 'Disconnect Extra Time' has been removed.

    > Also, all 100/200 PL and NL play money tables are now changed to 100BB max. Note that this will only affect new tables.

    > Both of these changes also apply to Zoom games.

    > We apologise if any of these recent changes are not to your liking. to which I responded.

I understand your reasons for changing the time bank as to the complaints you have gotten for people taking too long. However these people are probably not trying to range players, or multi tabling. I expect now that you have taken the time bank away, you will be receiving complaints from the players that utilize the time bank to make good decisions.

I hope that you can see my point of view and that hopefully you can find a compromise between those who don't want a time bank and those of us that use it. I believe that something like a 20 second time bank across the board and that refills as you play would be a reasonable compromise. I do agree that the accumulating time bank in zoom was a bit much and you shouldn't need 120 seconds to make a decision.

I know they are just play chip games, and most players don't really know or care about their actions hence the complaints, but there are also a lot of us that can't play for real money because of our location, that take the game seriously and use the time to range our opponents in tough spots.

Any way thank you for listening, I hope my feedback helps you.

PokerStars has moved away from its customer base in the play money side. I said that when they eliminated the SNG games I played and replaced it with turbo and hyper turbo games. I'm thinking this the Facebook effect where people are trained to go all-in every hand and where skill is considered secondary. People want speed and anything that improves the hand count per hour is viewed as an enhancement to the site.

Learning about the time bank change was a shocker. From the play money angle, it was good. I can recall too many games where it took over five minutes to play one hand due to the time bank. The site forgets the flip side. Those players are folded in the next hand and the game's play rate increases. As a play money player, the modification improves the action and does increase the hand speed. Since play action is limited to three tables, multi table play shouldn't be adversely affected.

For the cash side, I see these changes as a double-edged blade. The good point is the increase in number of hands per hour. Any casino or card room will tell you speed equals profit. However, online play relies on people playing multiple tables. If the time bank change reduces the number of tables a player can do at one time, one of two things will happen. Either the site will see a marked decline on the number of tables in operation, or an increase in the use of robotic software.

Yes, I know such software is not permitted. At this time. I do see such software becoming a staple tool for the cash ring player. If I am profitable at ten tables and the time bank forces me to five tables and an unprofitable status, I'll do one of two things. I either concentrate on one or two games at higher stakes, or I risk an account suspension by using unauthorized software and making a profit. No brainer in my mind. Look forward to an invasion of such software.

They haven't changed the real money time bank as far as I can tell. I am pretty sure this change only affects play chip games. I personally would like a time bank when I play, I don't use it that often but it is nice to know it is there if you need it in a tough spot.

As far as robotic software, I do not support any form of cheating and if you do it in real money you may be subject to more than just a suspension. I believe poker stars takes cheating very seriously. I don't know anything about the law in such matters. I do know that if I were in charge of a poker site I would do whatever I could legally to punish any and all forms of cheating.
