    Gotta leave him a chip

  • #2
While the act of leaving an opponent a single chip can feel satisfying to your ego, there is a BIG danger in doing it...

Jack 'Tree Top" Strauss ended up winning the 1982 WSOP main event when he moved his stack in without announcing all in. After LOSING the hand, he discovered that he had a single chip left in under a napkin (that he did not know he had), and that was enough for him to go on to win the entire event...

this is the origin of the famous saying "a chip and a chair".

Sure, you crippled this guy, but as long as an opponent has even a single chip left he still retains SOME equity in the prize pool. and the fact he has some equity in the prize pool means YOUR equity is less than it could be...

So your decision here has to be whether you want to play to "look cool", or whether you really want to WIN. If you are playing for the win, take his last chip and eliminate him from the MTT!

        Hey M!

I came back from 1 chip in Vegas to win a daily tourney once.... it isn't what I'd want to be doing.
        Nice hand.
