  • Ethics Question...

See the end of WPF Day II in the
Trip Reports forum it you're interested.
It involves dealmaking in a tournament.
I would love to know what others think
    about this... ...aloha

Congrats first of all on your success at the WPF, HUk and good luck in the final.

I don't think there was anything ethically wrong with your deal. Many tournaments are posting rules against dealmaking at the table, but they know full well it goes on in the halls and bathrooms. They just dont want it done openly in front of spectators and (in the big events) the cameras. Some may take exception to you guys "playing" it out and throwing it to guy who wanted the seat, but I woudn't say it was unethical or anything as no player was being cheated or acted against. If all the players at the table agreed, you could play one hand of high card for all the money.

One question though, you guys chopped the money including the 10200 that pays for the seat in the final, how did the guy who won still get a seat in the final? Kinda confused about that.

The guy who wanted to seat won the tournament and
was given the registration for the main event. He paid
cash out of his pocket to make the money come out right.

        Seems Fine to Me!

First, congrats on what was clearly a great, successful week at FW.

Reading your Trip Report, I was initially bothered by the part "...we let the player who wanted the seat win the tournament."

        - clearly collusion - my initial reaction was that's wrong! Just like cheating!!

        - then it dawned on me that you were ALL cooperating to void a stupid house rule: not 3 players against the 4th or anything like that.

All the PLAYERS were satisfied! The deal didn't cost the house any more money!

SO: no ethical problem for me.
AND - I think your money split was terrific!

If the players are playing their own money, then I see no problem. It is the rule that is stupid. If the players were playing for sponsor or casino money, then I would see a problem if this rule was broken. Maybe then it isn't a problem if every player is agreeable. I don't know.
