  • What Are GOOD Poker Books?

    Hello everyone,

I was just wondering if anyone had read, or can suggest any good poker books, preferably No Limit Hold'em, but I am open to anything that is a good read and educational and as I am willing to learn more about different forms.

The ONLY poker book I have read, I borrowed from a colleague called, "More Hold'Em Wisdom For All Players" By Daniel Negreanu. This is a solid book, however I find it is very general and not in depth about strategy and game theories or thought processes as I would have liked.

I think this would be great for our poker school members to be guided towards some good poker reading, so I ask that you also specify if it is for beginners or the more advanced player, and feel free to list more than one.

Also If anyone knows of anywhere to purchase them online or in stores please let me know, thanks!

      Too2Coo beat me to it.

The last books I read were Super System (volume 2 is next on my list, followed by Harrington) and the two Winning Poker Tournaments One Hand At a Time books.. forwarn you, they are more advanced with thought processes and should be read after you have a basic understanding of hold'em.

Does Pokerstars still stock poker books in the points store?

There is a books section, but I only see one in Spanish in it currently.

                  Cash :

No Limit Holdem Theory and Practice - best money I ever spent. No doubt made hundreds of dollars of difference in my BR back in the good old days of the poker boom.

Harrington on Online Cash Games; 6-Max No-Limit Hold 'em - Currently reading through this. Seems like a really great choice if you plan on playing 6max cash games in micros on up to low stakes or want to understand HUD use better.

                  Tournament :

Winning Poker Tournaments: One Hand at a Time - Haven't read this yet actually, but would be my first choice 100%

Ace on the River - Barry Greenstein This book is primarily about the real life experiences of being a professional poker player from the point of view of Barry Greenstein. His book has an emphasis on helping professional poker players as well as those who are aspiring to become professionals and give an accurate glimpse at the true life of a poker professional. The book does delve into poker strategy in the later chapters, game theory of how it applies to bluffing and math/probabilities. It is a must read.umbup: GL CannonLee

For cash games, Professional NLHE Volume 1 by Ed Miller, Matt Flynn and Sunny Mehta is a must read. Hold off on small stakes no limit hold'em at first (by the same authors), its too advanced for micro stakes and newer players and if you haven't read PNLHE yet it should definitely be read first.
