Ok, this may not be the right place to ask this, but... what's going on with Full Tilt? Anyone know why it's been shut down? Will it be opening again? Is it true that Americans can't play on Poker Stars too? Why!?I know this is old news, but if someone can round up what's been happening that would be great!

    Thanks,
    Matt.

The brief answer is: black friday happened, a little bit after that, the Alderney Gaming Control Commission (who licence them) received files relating to FT in relation to said Friday and suspend FT's licence on account of them doing stuff that goes against their licence, pending hearing on the 26th of last month, which got put off, not sure until when, but until then, FT is in limbo.

Heard that a Irish company was planning to buy FT, but apparently that went the way of the Dodo.

hope this clears things up a bit.

          Let's go point by point.

1 ---- Full Tilt has been shut down by its regulators. One of the biggest problems facing this site is insufficient funds to pay off those cashing out their accounts. When the DOJ closed the site on April 15, 2011, along with PokerStars, and Ultimate Bet, they negotiated a settlement where the sites barred US players from cash games and ordered all funds returned. PokerStars has complied and their site is active once more. Don't know about Ultimate Bet.

2 ---- Unless Full Tilt can come up with an investor willing to infuse $150 million so the site can pay off its American players, they might remain closed indefinitely. I do remember one news story claiming the operators of Full Tilt vowed to defy their regulators and would operate without a license. No truth to that story, at least I hope so. Otherwise, P.T. Barnum was right.

3 ---- American players can still play on PokerStars. However, the only games allowed are those for play money. This means PSO is off limits to us. In fact, the school has purged their rolls of all American players. As far as PokerSchool Online is concerned, we never existed.

4 ---- There are a lot of guesses as to why. Stories range from a conspiracy to help the Las Vegas casinoes establish online sites to maintain a domestic presence to an avarous Internal Revenue Service drooling over the lost tax revenues. Until the courts determine the guilt or innocence of the sites regarding their alleged money laundry operations, Americans will be barred from playing on the major three poker sites.

As you can guess from that last line, other poker sites are accepting American players. You might have to hunt for one, but they are out there. Problems I see is that such sites are more than just poker. They also have casino games and sports betting. Speculation is that if the DOJ wins its case, these other poker sites will become the next target.

On point number 3 Cairn if you go to the League tab and then punch up the option for PSO Skill League standings and then the requisite months they have put our finishes back up. Don't know when they did this but good on them for it. umbup:

Finding out we now exist makes us no longer the unwelcomed bastard child. Still think it will be years before anything is decided. On my optomistic days, I think three to five years. When I'm in the dumps, closer to ten.
