  • Online Reg No Longer in US

There's a reg who I've played a fair share with at 10NL over the past six or so months who has a brand new avatar, and country, if I'm not mistaken. The guy 20-tables 10NL and I'm pretty sure he used to play from the US. He's now playing from Mexico. I think this is interesting.

I'm not a big fan of pointing people out by name. But if you've ever played 10NL, you've likely seen the guy. The point of the OP is, regs as low as 10NL seem to be packing up and leaving the land of the free and the home of the brave in favour of anyplace that lets them do the job that they know they're good at. For all I know, the guy's originally from Mexico and he has family down there or something like that, but it looks like the US has effectively laid off a bunch of people from their jobs, and those people are saying that if they can't make their money by playing their poker, then the US just isn't worth it. I think that's interesting. I suppose it makes sense that people would pick their careers over their countries, but I've never pictured a scenario where that might actually happen to anyone, especially in a country that is such a big proponent of the idea of individual freedom. I wonder what that says about modern-day patriotism?

Modern day patriotism. You don't half wonder about some strange things.

Aren't most wars based on economics. If a government wages war on it's own citizens it's time to fill your pockets somewhere else.

I don't even come close to earning a living from this game. But if it happened here I'd be on a plane in no time.

yeah, I know of a former PSOer who has plans to move to Canada to come back here and grind again. I think this person told me they were going for SuperNova status.

I have always been a huge fan of live versus online anyways. So, not sure why someone wouldn't just play live. But, if they choose to move and play online. More power to them.

Well for myself I prefer to play live yes but...

...around my neck of the woods playing live means either one of several home games where it's more a social get together than anything involving any kind of winning of any real money,or there are still a couple of bars here that do the occasional bar tourney. For B&M action it's a schlep to Atlantic City or Charlestown,WV for me, so not really a viable option for any kind of regular routine there.

Being able to load up any game you want, almost anytime you want and multi-table them if you like, all from your own home,is really hard to beat.

                  Spot on!!!

I been playing Live 3 to 4 days a week @ Turning Stone and i really Love it

But for those who play 20 tbls the amount of time they need to put in live compared to Online is so huge and makes Live -EV for them to the point it is worth while to spend the $$ to move out side the country to make a living

I have 2 friends who just bought a house across the NY/Canada Border to play, I think it is crazy but i also do not make the money from Poker that they did prior to Cold Deck Friday

So to each there own as whats good for some is not for others

                    .

You're right, Moxie, the option of playing any game, any time is worth lots.

I don't take it for granted, and i am grateful that my country isn't trying to take over internet poker.
