  • What poker is all about - live play in Vegas

    Hello campers,

I now truly have a great appreciation for this game and I have to say I have never had more fun the last 4 days Ive spent playing live poker in Las Vegas. First night there I decided I would try the house tournament at Bally's at 8 pm - 65 bucks - it ended up I was chip leader at the 3 hour mark when we chopped it 5 ways for 385 bucks each. Next 3 nights it was various tournaments from a 75 buck tourney at 2 am at harrahs to 30 bucks at O Sheas - made it to the final table (actually made it to the final table 5 times) and cracked aces and QQ in the same hand short stacked all in with a Ks6s.(caught the flush on the river) Hehe - best part the guy holding aces thought he was joe superplayer and actually had to "walk off" his loss. Also cracked a pair of aces with Q 10 os (got full house). Then played for almost 9 hours in a cash game having to quit cause my plane left in 2.5 hours. Got to meet a great bunch of people from all walks of life including beginners who got lucky and donk students who had too much money and no brains - 1 clown sat down at 2 am went in blind preflop with a 14 dollar raise and got called for an 80 dollar all in raise - the donk had 9 4 off suite and walked away mad loosing a 100 bucks it was awesome.
If you really want the real experience of poker that is the place to do it - they have tournaments from 9 am until 2 am on the hour ranging from 30 buck to 300 buck buy ins plus cash tables are always willing to take ur money but its a great experience. Yes I did have 3 bad beats so they so happen ( a set vs a straight the guy chased to the river after I bet 60 bucks on the turn he actually called and caught on the river). As always the mention of internet poker was brought up and in Las Vegas no one thinks highly of online play.
I think playing live does give me a great insight into the game different styles of play and how I will approach the game - im also planning my trip back for october or november.

    cheers

That's really cool. I've heard some pro's say that online players that are serious can transition into live play at lower levels much easier than they probably think. Sounds like a great time, and congrats. Can't wait to try my hand at some live tournament play.

If you have patience, like you need in these league games... will translate GREAT to live events (I've played the lower limits live in a number of Vegas casinos).

If you want to auto play any A, any 2 suited or be a calling station.... like alot of online players..... you'll stick out like a sore thumb and get run out of a tourney pretty easily.
