  • sattelites and bankroll........

pretty soon at my local casino/poker room they will start the WSOP main event sattelites.

the direct buy ins for the satt's are 150$.....and they have sattelites to the 150$ sattelite for around 60$ i think............

i bought in directly to one last year and they tend to get around 150-200 people in them.....and they also pay-out the overlay if there is any, which there usually is.......

these 150$ sattelites are being run TWICE a month till' end of June i believe.

my question is........how many of these should i play to try to get into the WSOP main event? (considering if i don't win it the first time...)

my poker bankroll is currently around 2,200$ ......i usually play the 40$ tourneys that are offered every day...(pretty soft field) or the 65$ tourneys every night. occasionally when they have an Omaha 8/orB championship i enter that for 200$......but other than that i play relatively low buy-ins compared to my bankroll, just to keep up with the swings that go with playing (usually) 1/2 hold'em cash games (in which i usually buy-in for the min. 100$)

so how many sattelites max should i try? i really want to get into the WSOP this year......

can anybody give some suggestions on this.....these sattelites are really kinda a longshot, considering they usually pay only one 12,000$ package.............but i wanna play the WSOP this year. i'm thinkin tops maybe 4 tries?? would equal 600$ total buy ins if i buy in direct......what would u do? the 60$ super satt's are kinda just a push fest.bingo style...

What are you averaging in takedown per week? If it covers the buy-ins for the WSOP tourneys then play your regular schedule use the winnings for the WSOPs and preserve your bankroll.

I don't know honestly but maybe 3 shots. 1/4 of your bankroll if you run good near the end of the sats maybe try again a time or two. Good luck I wish I was closer to a casino to play live. Dont trust the underground rooms.

autodafe............that was my master plan, but i am willing to push the limits here because i wanna get there in july.........if i play the first two and at least get some decent payout in overlay, then i may play more. i have just had some really bad luck in big sattelites.......last one i played i was at final table mid/short stack and picked up pocket aces........got called all in by AK and he flopped trip Kings!!! grrrrr. busted 2 from the ticket......... sattelites have always done me wrong...........i think i will just play these as normal tourneys and hope to at least get the overlay and see what i can do. thanks for the input.

            IMO

            This is just my opinion,

bankrolls are open to many ways of thinking,

            is the bank roll,

            - all you have
            - for fun
            - trying to build it, to make your next move
            - etc
            - etc
            - etc

many ways of thinking, this is the question you have to answer yourself,

myself, my bank roll is for fun, if l lose it, no big deal, don't get me wrong here, l play to win,

but when the time comes, if l want to play a big game, l will go for it, and risk the roll,

            just me,

so do your own thing, but have fun doing it,

i agree effsea......i think we are on the same line of thinking here..........for me, that money is put aside just for poker.....i have done pretty decent in managing it, but i admit i have also lost most of it before, and i don't wanna do that again because i love to play. i am comfortable where i am now, hence the question to begin with. I have a feeling i may just GO FOR IT this year.......it wouldn't hurt my family or me to lose all of it.......BUT i know i would be kicking myself if i did. but then again.......if i don't play in the WSOP this year i will be kicking myself anyways. i guess that's why they call it "gambling"...........risk/reward. it all depends on how much YOU are willing to risk i guess. umbup:

OK, hiphop. No joking and all kidding aside. Here's my opinion. Tho I remember you saying that your don't like to deposit real money on PS, or Full Tilt. The best and easiest road to WSOP main event is online. You get the most in terms of variety and different levels of buy-ins. I don't know what type of overlay the sat at your local casino is offering, but it would have to be greater than 10% just to match it on a monetary level alone. Meaning, w/ a 20% or higher tourney fee associated w/ most brick and mortar casino tourneys, you're already down 10% by playing there. There is the added fact that most live tourneys are not a money making prop for the casino, so, they try to get through them as quickly and painlessly possible for the casino. ie rookie dealers, slow dealers, etc. etc. etc. Blind Structures for these tourney are also very bad. If you are really serious about making WSOP this year. I'd take $1000 to $1200 of your bankroll (depending on if you used your max deposits bonus' yet. and split it between full tilt and poker stars. As these 2 sites will likely hand out the most seat to this years WSOP. And if that is your goal, to win a seat to the main event. Map out your best tourney routes. Starting out w/ 1 to 2% of your roll early out, to road your way up to the Main Event Tourneys. See which ones are the best in terms of chances. As the date gets closer to the main event. You will map out bigger events. And you save your last chance $100 or so for a online Super Satty that both sites will throw. There will be one w/ like 1000 seats guarantee'd or so. I personally like added seats better. But, yes, this is the best road to WSOP. As, I'm likely to find a path myself also this year. PM if you need help. Hope this helps, -shark PS. sorry guys for the long read, w/o breaks. I'm lazy, as you all know.

                    shark....thanks for the thoughts......much appreciated.

the sattelites i will be entering at said casino actually have a nice structure. (i think so)

10,000 chips........30 minute blinds. it's an all day tourney if u go deep.

i know that online rooms offer some great opportunities to make it in to the WSOP.

to be frank, i have always said since day one, and i stand by this......IF i ever make it to the WSOP and run super deep........I will NEVER sport an online poker site's garb at the table.
This has nothing to do with bad feelings i have towards online poker sites in general......obviously i play on pokerstars a fair amount. i have actually grown to like pokerstars and the PSO quite a bit.
Honestly, i just get tired of seeing the FT and PS badges on ALL of the players at the final table. Does online poker now RUN the WSOP? This is THE LIVE POKER EVENT of every year. THE ONE. I understand that the world is run by advertising nowadays, and I have no problem with players who want to sport that "badge" that affiliates them with a certain online site. But, IF (and yes, for someone living within my means, that's a big IF) I ever make it into a 10,000$ buy in tournament, I sure as hell will decline any offer made by any online site to "advertise" their product. i am not a billboard, i am a poker player.......and if i ever make it to that pinnacle of my poker playing career, it will be because of ME. Not an online poker site, sports drink, beer, or whatever.

that's just my feelings on the matter. call me selfish or whatever. If i make the final table of the WSOP I will be wearing my band's T-shirt and the goofiest hat i can find. And pink bracelets all the way up my arm to support breast cancer research and survivors. (my mother has survived twice) IF i ever make that much money....i will be perfectly happy............besides, I just want that bracelet. (and for a good portion of my winnings to go to cancer research, especially childhood cancer.)

i hope this is not taken the wrong way.

now i just hope this guy will get home from Guitar Center so we can go jam......lol

online offers many ways to the WSOP, but if u win online, don't u have to wear that site's badge if u make it deep??? i know on some sites if u win an entry through them they make u sign a contract saying that u will wear only that sites garb.

i don't wanna wear any of that stuff.

and the money they pay is NOTHING compared to the money they will make off that advertising you wear at the final table.

Fine words. And if you can resist the $5k they wave in front of your nose if you find yourself on a feature table, you'll be demonstrating high morals indeed.

But...............when push comes to shove, I think you'll do exactly the same as 99% of us and stick that money in your back pocket as quick as a flash.

technically, that's horrible BRM. you shouldn't play a satellite to play in an event that you're not rolled for to begin with

although... you can treat yourself and if you bink it, then bink the main event, you'll spark another poker craze
