I thought that this week we would discuss etiquette at the tables. When does trash talk get to the point it is rude and abusive? What have you seen at the tables that you would consider bad sportsmanship? Should there be a penalty, just like in Live Events for the vulgarity that players show?

Don't really get the first question eric. When does trash talk get to the point? Is it rude and abusive? (i hope this is what you meant) Reminds me of a cash game I played. The guy in it made a rude comment after every hand. I was so intrigue, I ask him why he liked the sound of his own voice. He started trash talking me. I did a quick look up to see his stats. It turned out he was a very solid player. So, I assumed he was just pulling a Phil Hellmulth, to goad any one he could into playing badly or differently against him. As soon as I told him this is what I thought, he stop. Guess he figured it was only good if it worked. So, in his case, I would say, if you use it as a ploy and you think you are getting good result and actions from doing so, w/o outright being abusive and cussing, too each their own. I personally think you catch more bees w/ honey than vinegar. The thing that really gets me off is people who think they are poker's greatest gift, (Most of the are poker greatest gift, the way they play) who go off on what they perceive to be bad players.

I hate that the most and will usually set me off on a tirade against that so-called pro. Truthfully, if not for the donks, fish, shove monkeys. Poker would be like II Cote II's home games. Really, really tough. lol I know a lot of you think you'd like to play w/ ppl who know how to play poker and have some respect for a raise. Me personally, I like playing w/ donks, and fish and will defend their right to play anyway they wish with every last breath. I think bad sportsmanship is influencing others at the table w/ chat. Whichever way it may be. Good, or bad. As for a penalty. I think there should be a sit out penalty of 10 minutes if you're caught using any profanity at the tables. BLEEP BLEEP BLEEPING BLEEP is ok in my book. So is F*** *******. As long as it is not completely just plain out profanity. I was once at Commerce casino playing 20/40 limit. One guy at the table was dropping F bombs at the dealer, players everyone. He must have been a good tipper cuz, no one would do anything. I finally called a Floor person over and said, "I pay rake to play here too. If you're not going to do anything about it, call he shift manager over. I don't have to play in this kind of enviroment" (spelled and respelled this 10 times, still wrong. Someone help) My 2 cents, Hope to get .30 cents eric lol. -shark

Shark...in response to your first question about my question...look at some of the trash talk in the forums here. Some of it is ok and we understand the competive nature of most of the PSO players, and I see it at the tables, little jabs here and there, but at what point does good humored trash talking become abusive. I have had players that love to call me nancy...just because they think it will get under my skin. It doesn't so they make the attacks more personal. Then I hit the Block Chat button and it is done. There are also a couple I don't block, because I love when they get off their 30 day chat bans, they go right back on them....lol

personally, those chat bans should be easier to get (or a sitout penalty).

My view on it.... anyone wanting to have an out-of-line punk attitude..... penalize them (just as they would in a live room).

If it's directed at me, I find trash talk amusing.

Shark, I can deal with most rude comments...I'll let my playing speak for me. However, I do feel that there should be zero tolerance for racist comments directed at anyone and severe penalties should be meted out.

I think it's ENVIRONMENT. I agree with you that profanity at the table is probably the worst kind of trash talk. I think that if you aren't creative enough to talk about someone fornicating with domesticated animals without using the F-bomb, you have no business opening your pie-hole. Someone at a table once said, '--profanity is the last refuge of the ignorant--.' Oh, that was me.
Along those lines, I fail to see why people stick around and yap after I send them to the rail... Some say it's to screw me up, but usually I find it humorous and it makes my game better...

                  I'm just sayin...

What have you seen at the tables that you would consider bad sportsmanship? Should there be a penalty, just like in Live Events for the vulgarity that players show? You can discuss this and possibly have your answers posted here next week by going here: Weekly Roundup Forum

Table Trash talk as I see it isn't bad. Any personal attack is bad. I have no worries asking a guy what he is or was thinking when calling my over bet with 3 outs. Hit it or no.......I am asking him. I have been banned here on Pokerstars for ignorant comments to players and I accept responsibility for those comments. However, don't think I am not going to question your ignorance within a hand played. I can't and won't learn about you as a player if I don't know.

Bad Sportsmanship is any personal attack on one's person. Not questioning one's actions.

Penalty's: Let me say this. I ask the exact same questions live in every casino in the STL area. Not once, never have I been asked to step away from the table nor leave for any amount of time. I have never had anyone I play with regularly asked to leave either. I have cussed and been cussed at. NO PENALTY! Nothing has ever gotten as heated as my conversations online with certain players. But, NO PENALTY for asking questions nor questioning one's play. I know people have wished I was given a penalty but I promise you. They will have to call security if it ever gets so bad that a poker room manager wants to give me some sort of penalty for calling a players ignorance or thought process out. This weekend I had a local TV anchor call my 3 times the pot bet with a flush draw with only the river to come. This is a losing forumula. He and I both knew it but he so called "felt' it. This could have been the first and last penalty ever given to me in a B&M.

I was playing a 25 cent sng the other day and a guy by the name of teazje was going to each
table and calling other people x-rated names. He had several people furious and trying to
take him out. His stategy was to psych out the other players and it was working for him for
awhile. His choice of words should have gotten him a chat ban... but it didn't.

His sexual comments to me were very rude and vulgar. It's a good thing that I'm not the sheriff of PS...he would have been banned from the tables for a long time.

Is it true that the moderators can't see observer chat? Someone told me that is why he can get away with his trash talk from the sidelines.

That's because it's not advertised. I want people to genuinely give their opinions, not just give them for money. It is also based on my bankroll, so it varies from day to day and week to week. Just my way to give back for the opportunity to write for you guys.
