  • Art in the UK.....

    excerpted from Dave Barry's column:
Today we have an important are news update from England, or Great Britain, or the United Kingdom, or whatever they are calling it these days....

As you may recall, the last time we checked in on the British art community, it had awarded a major art prize, plus 20,000 pounds (approx.$30,000) to an artist names Martin Creed, for a work entitiled, "The Lights Going On and Off" It consisted of a vacant room in which the lights went on and off.....

Which leads to the latest development in the British art
world.....from the London telegraph. Here is the key sentence"
The Tate Gallery has paid 23,000 pounds of PUBLIC money for a work, that is literally, a load of excrement....

Yes, the Tate Gallery spent 23,000 pounds or roughly $35,000 of British taxpayers money to a purchase a can containing aprrox. one ounce of an artists very own......OK let's call it his artistic vision.

I am so glad we decided to protest that tax on tea way back when...I shudder to think where the money may have gone....Obviously tossing the tea into Boston Harbor was much better than paying the tax and having it go down the toilet...............literally.......... 8O 8O

Next time I ask one of our friends from the UK why they aren't in the casinos more and making money and they complain about the taxes, I will totally understand............

My work is obviously too deep for you to understand. Thank god for the snobs.

Surely art should be challenging, and pushing it's own boundaries?

FYI the band KLF videoed themselves burning one million pounds in a big fire in the name of art. It makes you think at the very least. Which can't be a bad thing.

Or am I talking a load of old Pollocks again?
