  • $11 Phase tournament , Not so super strong hand multi-way

It is $11 Phase tournament with 2 Day's (Phase 1 = Day 1 and Phase 2 = Day 2). I am playing Phase 1 where I need to survive 15 levels and it has 10mins blind level. 1) Should I check flop? 2) Should I 3-bet his check-raise? 3) Should I call his check-raise and see what he does on turn? STATS :

    Hi Adi,

I'm inclined to check the flop. Our hand is just not very strong in a 5 way pot on a board texture that smashes callers ranges. When we c-bet we will not really be in great shape vs. hands that give us action, save for straight draws (KQ/J/T). The problem is with us raising UTG there are a number of better hands possible that could flat us pre, including hands as strong as AK or JJ, but also including TT/QJ/QT/JT/K9/98. Since our hand is fairly weak for a 5 way pot, I lean towards checking and re-evaluating, with an eye towards not putting a lot of chips in this pot.

As played, c-betting isn't terrible but I think we should plan to proceed with caution given the relative weakness of our hand for this situation and it's frailty even when ahead. And that means, all things considered, we have a pretty easy fold to this check-raise imo.
