  • $11 Super Stack tournament on FTP, I hate AK !

It is $11 Super Stack tournament on FTP with 12min slow blind level and 5000 starting stack. I was the super big chip leader so I didn't wanted to make any mistake and leak chips. We are not yet ITM. This is the first time this player made it 4x, normally he was doing 4x or limping. I saw him one time doing 3x but that was 1 level back at 300/600 where he 3x'd from button. Not even one time I saw showdown from him. I was scared of his 4x that's why I called, otherwise I would have 3-bet but then the BB player 3-bet which looked like JJ+ to me that's why I folded and it was a super big 3-bet also. I guess BB player had KK the way he played it. Question is how should I have played it preflop? Hi Adi

Deep stack poker really isn't my thing but if I was to play the hand I'd 3bet preflop regardless of villains 4x raise. The way I see it is we have AK and we are 7 handed. We have the chiplead therefore we are entitled to apply maximum pressure on our opponents. The table dynamics ought to have an impact on how we continue with the hand if we get 4bet but I would certainly more often than not get it in 7 handed.

As played we really ought to fold to the 3bet or shove... the problem with shoving is that we don't have much fold equity after both villains have committed a huge chunk of their stack but at the same time we do have a little bit of fold equity and if we can get one villain to fold then getting it in with AK would be hugely beneficial for us.

Cram all in sometimes, fold sometimes... ultimately it depends on table dynamic, player stats and how they perceive us.

    Cheers, Chris.

I agree with Chris. I'd prefer 3-betting preflop too and if they come over the top, I'm calling. AK's one of those hands that plays better if I get to see all 5 board cards, so with the chip lead and against much smaller stacks, I'd prefer to get it in preflop... before they see a board that can beat me.
