  • What to do with ATo (when your card dead

The above is a hand from MM event 71 the $11 super KO turbo event. the UTG player is fairly tight but also passive he seems happy to limp in to see a cheap flop. Both blinds are tight aggressive today, and although not many chances I have got a steal throgh on them. Whats the best play(s) here ta, Grade b

    Hi Grade b,

I think the key to our best decision is in the read you have right here:

the UTG player is fairly tight but also passive he seems happy to limp in to see a cheap flop.
When a player described in this manner opens for a raise from UTG, I would weigh that action as a stronger than normal range. Essentially, he is probably only doing this with a range of hands that are all ahead of ATo, meaning we have poor hand equity against him and poor fold equity on a shove. So I think the best choice is to simply fold preflop.

      ty for that Dave, (TheLangolier)

I ummed and erred for a while before folding this mostly because I was card dead and this was the best hand I had seen for a while.

I wass then looking over my stats for this and they were way to tight for a turbo, but on reviewing the hands this was one of my best spots (hand + position(but not situation))

Your right, I see a lot of people auto play AT here because it fits their 'good hand' category.
Its all about the situation, hand strength is only 1 part of the equation we need to solve to find if a spot is profitable.
