  • Card dead in tournaments - How to deal with it?

Last sunday I was playing the Sunday Storm and was running pretty good until a certain point. I just doubled up (1010 vs 55 on a QQQ flop) which gave me a 170k stack while the blinds were 2000/4000. However, after this double up, I literally did not receive a single hand. Except one time AK, but I lost that on against a small stack. With crap hands I mean 49, J2, Q3 etc.

Normally I would try to steal a bit more, however the table had 2 big stacks (80-100BB), who were also opening pots, which limited my stealing opportunities. And I didn't like to re-shove them with crap.

In the end I was down to 95k, while the blinds were 3500/7000 at this point. I received AQ, but unfortunately I lost against 99.

So how would you deal with card-dead situations? Are you shoving with air or does it happen that you just can't do much about it.

Not sure what Dave said in his speaks, and even if what I do is good advice. But if I've been card dead for a while, my image is probably going to be pretty tight and any plays I make should be getting some respect from the table. So I will be observing the table tightly: who is folding to 3-bets and C-bets, who is opening wider than they should? I will then seek to isolate these players in good spots and play the board rather than my cards. It doesn't always work perfectly but as you say we need to be gathering chips or the blinds eat us up. I'd rather have a go (in a controlled and thoughtful way) than get to the point where all my fold equity has gone and I am relying on the cards dealt to me.
