  • $1.10 MTT : Late in tourney. Wanted to make FT, would you have made the same call?

    Hi everyone

What do you guys think of the hand below? It was late in the tourney (11 players left) and I felt like calling because I was holding 10th place atm and if I had double-up, I would be in a comforatble 4th place. Because I think it is important that once in a while you should finish in the top3 otherwise you are only making small money.

Villian was playing 44/38/1.3 and 3bet was 7. Only 51 hands though.

Would you have made the same decision to call? why or why not?

I think PF we can raise a little less I like anywhere from 56,000 to 70,000. The issue here is that the SB is shoving a stack smaller than the original raiser who has them covered. I would rate the SB being VERY strong. QQ+ maybe AK.

It depends what we're ranging the SB to have. QQ+ it's a fold. QQ+, AKs and AKo... then it's really close. We're getting 1.66 to 1.

Considering we're in 10 of 11... maybe it's a call? I'm not too sure. If we fold here we still have 22bb left with an M of 10.

Hi DonV73! Since the SB's 3-bet range is 7%, I'll assume that their 4-bet range is probably about half of this or 3.5%. This gives the SB a range of 99+, AQs+ for this opp and gives me a hand equity of 41.7%. To call, I need to put 314947 into a pot that will be 840394 (37.5%). Since my hand equity is higher than my pot equity, along with the fact that I need to get chips not only to get to a top 3, but to even get to a FT (only have 10th stack of 11)... I'm calling. ------------------ There are two pieces of information that can change this, that were left out. What was the cutoff's PFR (raising range)? The reason for this is that the tighter the opener is, the tighter we'd need to be and in return, the SB's range need to then be much tighter. Also, how tight is our 3-bet range? Also, the tighter our range is, the tighter the SB needs to be. If the SB is playing a tighter range due to these two factors... then this can turn into a fold, as the breakeven point for the opp's range is at about 2.6% (TT+, AKs). ---------- Also, normally, I'd be 3-betting to a smaller amount here (62-65k)... but the way this hand played out, doing so would even make this a tougher decision, as it would raise out pot equity due to us having to put more into the pot to call the shove... which would in most cases turn this into a marginal to easy fold. Hope this helps and good luck at the tables.umbup: John (JWK24)
