  • Suicidal Play!

It's Big $3.30, 10 mins blind level regular structure game. The guy to my right is loose player. He don't like limp folding. I was folding last 10-12 hands and I can't wait for AA KK. So I need to start winning some pots. My image at the table was TAG. So I made a play on the river coz I know he would almost never pot bet if he rivered a straight with 9. I don't know if it's a bad play with good timing or good play with good timing. Can you plz tell me where did I made mistakes in this hand? PS: He folded and shows STATS :

I might be a nit but I don't like the river line.

Preflop seems reasonable and the sizing is also good.

CBetting the flop also seems reasonable as you have a fair bit of backdoor equity and a lot of good turns that you can either continue to barrel with or just check back. This guy's also shown that he's capable of folding to CBets, so it's not as if you're flogging a dead horse.

However once he calls, I'm just giving up unless I improve significantly.

I couldn't disagree more with this. I see people (especially fish) bet pot with the nuts all the time. Yes sometimes they also do it as a bluff but often they just think of betting big to look like a bluff so you call.

Moreover once he's committed this many chips, even if your read is correct that he never has a 9, he might think "%!@?* HE'S SO LUCKY!! POKERSTARS IS RIGGED!! bla bla bla" and they just call with KTo anyways because they're tilted.

So I'd just fold this river, you've still got a very decent stack and there's no need to take such a risky high variance and frankly IMO, a -EV line.

ROFL... you are absolutely right about it, they will call no matter what and then curse.
