  • 21BB call or shove?

What option is better with 21BB in slow structure game, call or shove?

Hand she showed up with :
    1) She called a 5-bet shove of SB with her QQ, the small blind guy 5-bet shove with his KK. She insta calls.

    2) Last time she open KJs from UTG+1 and went 4-bet all-in, when some guys 3-bet her from LP with his 77. That time she had 21BB and won that flip.

Hi adikumar2010! With AQs, I get a smaller than standard raise and a call. The opener is playing a 14% range and the second opp is playing 26%. AQs is ahead against either of these player's ranges, so I'd like to be isolated against either one of them. I don't want to call and invite others into the pot, as I'm only at 40.6% equity against both of these player's ranges, and will drop more if I allow the blinds to come along. Due to this, I'm going to raise. A standard raise is to between 3X the previous bet (1641) and a pot-sized raise (2286) and with multiple opps in the hand, I tend to go for the higher end of this range. Since I have only 5264 chips in front of me, basically everything in this range pot-commits me, as it will put over 1/3 of my stack into the pot. Due to a raise making me pot-committed, I'm shoving. Even if both of these opps call, it's still a +EV play for me, as I will have 40.6% hand equity and only 32.2% pot equity, so if both call it's a +8.4%EV play. If only one opp calls, then it will be even a higher +EV play for me. I don't want to call here, as the more opps that are in the pot, the lower of a % of the time I will win the hand (even one of the blinds coming along drops me to only having less than 30% hand equity and both coming along makes it even worse). When playing, I want to make the play that will be the highest EV play possible and here, that is to raise to try and isolate and since any raise pot-commits me, the best decision that I can make is to shove. Hope this helps and good luck at the tables.umbup: John (JWK24)
