  • Where did I go wrong?

Where did I go wrong in this hand other then opening loose pre-flop from cut-off!!

When I bet the turn I couldn't fold to his min-raise as he was giving me good price 1:4.75 to make a bigger straight or should I've just check the turn instead?

I thought I have the best hand on turn equity wise (even if he has two pair) that's why I bet on turn.

What about the river is it easy fold?

What all are my mistakes other then preflop loose open with 40BB and what's the best way to play this hand other than folding preflop, coz if I fold such hands preflop I will never end up in such tough spots.

    Hi adi,

The open is thin but I don't mind it since the button and blinds are all fairly tight players. I also think betting the flop is fine as we can get value from a number of worse pairs (primarily because they think we haven't hit this flop often) as well as protect our equity against hands like QJ by denying them a free card to draw out on us.

On the turn I would check behind him. The villain is check/calling our flop bet with a range of hands that largely consists of a few slow plays, and a lot of pair and pair+draw type hands... this card is a very good one for his range in general, improving him to a number of straights or 2 pair holdings. So where you went wrong, imo, was in failing to range him. Your statement is that you think you have the best hand equity wise, even if he has 2 pair, but it would be good to do a fair range analysis... Even vs. a 2 pair hand like 6s4s we are almost a 2-1 dog now. And you have to account for hands like 44 that slowplayed the flop, and 56/45/55/75/66, etc.

So I would check behind on the turn, and call a small river bet, fold to a big one, in all likelihood, from this tighter opponent.
