  • Rebuys and add ons

    Hi all

Just want to get some input on your thoughts regarding rebuys and add ons.

Personally i don't like them, because i probably can't at the moment adapt my game. It always seems in the early stages that if you raise with a solid hand, you will get multiply calls and shoves by those who are happy to keep rebuying.

I was playing in a $2 tourn with a $2 unlimited rebuy, the person to my left made at least 10 rebuys, to me it does not make any sense. They would have been better off buying in to a $25 tourn or played several sng's.

As i said, i probably am not able to adapt my thought process for playing rebuys. Though any advice always warmly taken.

I'm much like you in that I'm not a huge fan of rebuys but there is some advantages to them in that if you get unlucky early and lose your chips you're not out. They can also produce large prize pools and if you only use one buy in that can mean a decent return on even a smaller cash. It's also good if you're able to take advantage of the looser play at the start, picking your spots to double up and gain some easy chips. But the pay can be quite crazy and if you're not disciplined you can waste a lot of money on rubuying (although you sound like me in that you probably hate to rebuy).

Before you enter a rebuy you really should have a budget for it and make sure you're properly rolled for the amount you're willing to spend. Say it's a $2 game, before hand set your limit at what you can afford and think is sensible. Perhaps 2 or 3 buy ins plus an add-on. This way you're not going to do like that guy and spend $20 and make it very difficult to make a profit. Personally when I do play them (most likely it's sattys) I'll usually set my limit at 2 rebuys max (1 if it's about $2) and I'll always take the add-on.

I'm sure someone who's better at MTTs than I am will be happy to give some strategy and tips for this kind of game, anyone?
