  • $7 Fifty50 AJs utg+1 1st hand play with no reads or fold

This is a low stakes Fifty50 and in a turbo (actually 3 minute levels) so not sure 1st hand just 75bb deep.

    Should play AJs ep read-less?

In the short time these tournaments take I may not get such a good hand and yes AJs is a monster if you are going to wait for better in a hyper structure 10 handed.

So this is an open free for all. Can we range our opponent?

    Hi Forrest,

I would open it, although AJs is about the bottom of my opening range from EP here. As it's the first hand and you have no reads or history prior to this game it's pretty tough to range what he's cold calling with. I would call the min-raise but don't feel good about getting raised on the flop. He can easily have AQ or AK flatting an EP raise, and worse aces should never really raise us (it's pretty bad) but they might if he's a bad player. Another concern is the hearts, he can have top pair with the nut flush draw as well. I don't think our hand can take much heat personally, but once we turn the jack at this point we can imo, it's a non heart and we just drew out on AK/AQ/A5/A4. I think you should check-raise jam though. You've given hearts reasonable price to call with your small raise sizing, especially if he's got a combo hand like Ah2h, Ah3h, AhQh, KhQh where he's got other outs besides a flush.

      Hi Dave,

Thanks, then on every street you blow me out of the water on ranging. I was thinking no 3b and in this structure there is only one - a jam and that's the fish. Who can call?

Actually I thought a good player got away from AK/AQ with dreams of a flush run out. So a heart on the river. You think I'm dead probably, then betting a non-heart river has no value as no worse will call?

Then the obvious 55 / 44 speculation call that early in a Fifty50. So I'm dead if they jam my x/r turn. Just one of those moments hummm?
