  • The math call 2 : 1 odds. Is this btn vs blinds?

    Hi,

Had an enforced 2 days off poker. My broadband provider dumped me off the tables and the help lines not responding. Just realizing how reliant we are on networks and phones. Thought I'd been hacked.

Anyway happy to be back and ask what might be a simple 2:1 math call. But this is a 50,50 and horrible still 10 handed level 100/200. Posted bb with not quite 5bb behind.

So this is a 3bb shove from the c/o and was thinking is the math btn steals vs blinds? Anyway better than 2.5:1 nearly squeezing the math to giving myself 3:1 calling Jack rag.

Looking at the fold and posting the sb next hand 100% call ATC?

Hi Forrest! My initial thought here is to snap-call with J5 here, but lets look at the odds. I need to call 400 into 1575 (25.4%).. so I need 25.4% equity to call. I have this against a random hand and even have it against an opp that is as tight as 8%. The opp here should be much, much wider than this so it's a call. I then went and put it into an ICM calc and here is the call range. It's not ATC, but it's really close. 22+ Tx+ 92s+ 94o+ 82s+ 84o+ 72s+ 73o+ 62s+ 63o+ 52s+ 53o+ 42s+ 43o 32s Hope this helps and good luck at the tables.umbup: John (JWK24)

With a table that tight my preference would be to shove NE2 UTG.

Initial thought were to fold but in a really tight table is villain really shoving a2c? I think you should range him a bit tighter.

Thanks guys, Was getting mixed up on the point of equity % vs ratio method. John I see what you are doing here presenting the calculation against a range % of hands. Adding the call 425? to make a future pot size of 1600 (if the replay is giving me the correct numbers) 425/1600 = 26.6%. Now just tried pokerstove and messed up. Plugged in Player1 Jc5d and Player2 random gives us 47.2% and random 52.8% what does it mean? I know we've been here before and it's pointless for me to try and use this method to make a decision at the table. Thanks for trying. umbup: It's so simple using the ratio method 1175/425 = 2.7 : 1, at the time I instantly knew I had better than 2.5 : 1 and considering the general 2 : 1 rule "I call". My only other thoughts were the consequences of not calling and the c/o was in last chance saloon with about 3bb.

That means that against a random hand, your hand has 47% equity... so if the pot equity is lower.. it's a call.

It's personal preference as to which someone uses.. I use equity %'s as it's easier for me to do in my head than ratios.

I know it's not directly related to the question at hand, but how did you get down to a micro stack? To me this more interesting than your call/fold decision. The best way to handle hard decisions is to minimize those situations. Knowing how we got into a tight spot is the key to avoiding them.

                Good decisions!

                  Hi TrumpinJoe

Just the game play stt 50,50 75bb 10 handed. Live reading a few orbits. Limp, limp, min raise (to isolate wtf?) I have no hand to defend in position and fold. So as time goes on I need it to fold around to me and card dead bluffs or marginal hands do not play well multi-way. So reading the table (1bb donk bets sigh?) then chips fly and wow chips gets dumped around the table and nothing has changed. And the levels are increasing...

It gets that way sometimes and I can't do anything about it.
