  • Hand from Celina Lin video

Was watching the video from Celina Lin in the 50/50 SNG here:

    http://www.pokerschoolonline.com/art...y50-105-Part-1

I was curious though with the table that has 9T suited on the button at 2.40 of the video.

Why is it to be folded here when on the button early on and only having 120 to call, even a raise maybe. Using position and a decent hand to see a flop on the button. I guess some players will play this hand many different ways, but for me I thought long term it's at least a call here?

It's an easy fold, and it's because of the lack of implied odds. The player UTG opened for 3bb. Calling the bet would mean Celina has put a twelth of her stack in the middle. To make profitable calls with suited connectors, you typically need to be able to win 20-25 times the price of calling. Since you seldom hit a monster hand with T9s, you need to be able to win a a big pot when you finally do. Implied odds of 12 to 1 are not good odds.
In a deep-stacked cash game (with 100bb stacks), calling with T9s could be profitable, but short-stacked in a tourney, you don't have enough chips to speculate.

      Hope this helps!

      Cheers,

That certainly makes sense, thanks for the answer. No doubt the gamble in me makes that call then, which I am trying to work on as I have been losing for a while
