  • Differneces between 9 and 6 players?

Hi guys, I've decided to use my tournament ticket on MicroMillions-043: NL Hold 'Em (6-max).

My main question is, are there any strategical differences I should be using on a 6-handed table than on a 9-handed table? Or is it all essentially more of the same?

    Thanks in advance

In general you need to be more aggressive with hand selection in 6 max as there are less people behind and the blinds go through you more often.

Try treating UTG something like middle position in 9 man games.

NOT exactly, what you need to do, is increase your range in every position.

Aggression Factor for 6-max, the average is between 1.7 and 7.4 and for FR, it's between 1.7 and 5.2. As you can see, the numbers are almost the same.

I agree with Sandtrap on this one. The biggest difference is that when playing 6-max compared to full ring, I need to be playing a wider range from every position at the table.

Sorry, what exactly is the difference between being more aggressive with hand selection and widening your range? It's the same thing to me.

Feel like I've been scolded and then told to do exactly what I have been scolded for. If I am missing something please break it down for me.

            Hey bhoy!

Being more aggressive translates to betting more, to put more pressure on the opps. When playing shorter tables, I want to keep my same standard bets, but just to do them with a wider range.

I'd agree with my post being interpreted like that if I had simply said you have to 'be more aggressive' and left it like that as sandtraps truncated quotation makes it look like I did.

I said 'more aggressive with hand selection' which I think is clearly a reference to playing more hands not making more or bigger bets.

Having two people correct me and then say the same thing as I was just leaves me feeling and looking like an idiot.

There are so few 6-max tourneys going on when the MM isn't running, I was wondering myself the other day if it's common for there to be lots of LAGs, or if that was just my table draw?

But here were the stats of two players on my right:

And then after those two got eliminated ... the stats of the next three, which were quite similar:

It was kind of exhausting playing against people with such wide ranges, who don't fold a lot, and bet if you don't. But on the other hand, people who play so many hands give off a lot of tells? So I felt like there was the chance there to take a lot of notes?

GL with your tourney!! Still haven't decided if I'm gonna play it or not ... am still a little wiped out from the game a couple of days ago lol

                      Hey Sam!

I'd expect to see a bunch more lags in a 6-max tourney than in a full ring tourney and I totally agree with your comment about being able to take more notes on them.

Bhoylegend was correct from the start he said be more aggressive with HAND SELECTION not aggressive betting. Its the same thing as increasing your range.

                          Sorry if you guys misunderstood.

The terminology of aggression is the wrong word

One could interpret the saying as if you have 27o on the button, you should raise, that's taking an aggressive hand selection. Being UTG and playing T6s is an aggressive hand selection.

But instead, if he would of said "you need to increase your % hand range by 5-8% in every position" that would of been more appropriate to someone who's a bit new to the game.

Aggressive is mainly used for the style of play and loose is used for hand selection

Sorry bhoy if I offended you, wasn't my intention

One could interpret it as saying that being more aggressive with hand selection means opening 72o on the button or T6s UTG but that seems like a rather farcical interpretation and a pretty contrived example to come up with.

I'm not mortally offended or anything but I just think the correction was needless when an opinion could have just been added without quoting part of my post and using it out of the context of the whole post.
