  • AQ open skill league

So i get a load of limpers and i dnt want to open AQ for 2.5x +1 for each limper and get called i figured the limpers will fold to my shove and if the 2 muppets to my left call i dominate there 90% opening range so they call i was right but as usual big stack gets lucky like he did 5 hands in a row. Was just wondering was this the correct play based on the fact that with the limpers and the weak players to my left AQs is definitely well ahead, i dont think limping is the correct thing to do but i dont want to open for the standard because they will all call my standard raise so i guess i could do with some luck actually.

Hi mike2198! With AQs from the hijack, I get three limpers in front of me. I will make an opening raise to 2.5BB+1BB for each limper, so I will raise to 1100. If someone then shoves on me, I absolutely need to muck, as I do not have a made hand. I do not ever want to be all-in preflop in a league game without a made hand... unless I'm blinded in. The one and only goal in these games is to last as long as possible in order to obtain as many league points as I can for the end of the month leaderboard and due to this, I NEVER want to be taking any sort of chance without a premium made hand. Also, a shove here is a very large overbet. The raise to 1100 does NOT pot commit me, so even if this is a cash tourney, I'm not shoving. What will result against normal opps in a situation like this is that I will value-own myself. This means that I'll fold out all worse hands and only get called by better ones... the exact opposite of what I want to have happen. Hope this helps and good luck at the tables.umbup: John (JWK24)

In that spot, there ISN'T ANYTHING that I would shove. It's too many chips.

Nope. Shoving here is too many chips for any tourney type.
