  • Hot $5.50 exit hand

I satty'd in to this tournament so i'm really pleased with the result and this is my exit hand. The villain had just come to the table so no reads at all i think the way i played the hand was ok maybe i should of shoved the flop but was trying to get more chips in the pot before i shoved.

Hi DrDonkin! With KQo from UTG, I'm going to make my standard raise, which for this blind level is to 2.2BB+1BB for each limper, so I'll raise to 26.4k. The CO then raises to 58,553. Here is where a read on the opp would be critical for me, as I would want to know what their range is. The tighter the opp is, the more likely I'd be to muck to this raise since I'm out of position. If the opp is loose, then I'm more than happy to call and see the flop, as my hand has enough equity to see the flop. With no read on the opp, I'm going to call and re-evaluate on the flop. I flop top 2 pair and the way that I want to build a pot is by lead betting here. My standard value bet in this situation is 1/2 pot, but this is just under 1/2 my stack, which means that any bet that I make here, I'm pot committed. Due to this, I'm shoving the flop. I also don't want to take the chance that the opp could check behind and see a free card that can beat me. I don't necessarily always want a call here either. There are cards out there that could possibly beat me: A, K, heart and cards that already have me beat (5 or AQ). If the opp folds on the flop, I still almost double my stack without a fight, which I'm more than happy with. Hope this helps and good luck at the tables.umbup: John (JWK24)
