  • $1.10 MTT Exit Hand 3

Today I entually got round to playing another $1.10MTT 3K starting stack, 15min blinds. I think in retrospect this was probably a bad move, maybe not always, but I had just been moved to a new table where I not only had zero reads on the players at the table, but they also would not have any table image for me so would not know I was pretty TAG Given the table move, the quite early position at UTG+3, no reads - is a small pocket pair better just folded? I didn't really think I had enough chips to set-mine unless I thought the table was going to be very passive. So could I rely on some fold equity knowing that getting any call is not going to give me great odds, a flip at best - and multiple callers will probably leave me little equity. As it was I had roughly 1/3rd pot equity against these specific calling hands - hit my set, but then got sucked out on. Should I have just kept my stack intact for a better spot - we were past the money bubble and I was starting to get short again with the BB about to go up from 1200 to 1600 - I could have folded and still had 10BB for at least another orbit or two. Any thoughts welcome Ed

Hi Ed! For me here, what I'm going to do with 55 would really be based on my reads of the opps, which in this case, with just being moved to the table, is a problem. I do have enough chips to setmine here (16BB), but I don't like open limping, so to setmine, I'd have wanted one of the opps acting ahead of me to limp, so that I could limp behind. Since I can't limp behind, I would not setmine here. The next thing that I wish that I knew was if the opps at the table were aggressive or passive. If I knew that the overwhelming majority of them would fold to a raise without a premium hand or play passively, then I'd be more likely to make my standard raise to 2.5BB. This also, by raising to this amount gives me a way out if the action behind me gets out of hand. I'd be left with just under 14BB, which is a playable stack. I also wouldn't rule out shoving here either, if I knew that I could be isolated against one opp, as with being the second low stack at the table, I wouldn't necessarily mind a heads-up race. If the opps were known to be aggressive, then I'd be more likely to muck 55 here, as I'd know that I'm most likely having to play for stacks and would not want to be in a multi-way pot with a low pair, as I'd have more outs that I'd have to dodge. Without reads, I'm going to muck 55 here and try to find a better hand and get some reads on the opps. Even if the blinds go up to 1600, I'm still at 12BB, which is playable. Hope this helps and good luck at the tables.umbup: John (JWK24)

      Thanks John -

I think the table moves phased me a bit, I was sat at the same table I started on for 2-3 hrs, had solid reads even though an opp would come and go regularly - then had a couple of swift table moves close to the money bubble, got a bit disoriented with no reads, and I know I tend towards nittiness in these spots, so maybe tried to overcome that and played too reckless here. I think readless in this position a conservative fold would have been best.

      cheers

Agree with JW 100% across the board here Ed,but what he's NOT telling you is that if they were the 2 RED 5's he would be shipping it all day long and twice on Sundays.

Looks like I agree with John 100% and you 100% then Moxie - so 300% agreement - however you do bring up a new problem. I use a 4 - colour deck - so I never have 2 red 5s - am I doing myself out of some potential value here... and btw Moxie Pip - in case you haven't noticed - you have been mentioned elsewhere in forums today (but I could not possibly comment on where) umbup: Ed

Moxie, even mucked red 55 live last night. Yes, it's my lucky hand, but if the situation isn't right, I'm not playing it.
