  • Weekly Round 2 Pocket Jacks in BB - Early Stages

Another early hand in today's tournament: My read on Villain_2 was a loose-passive player who called too many flops with too many hands. I rarely saw him raise. Villain_6 could be aggressive post-flop, but was rarely aggressive pre-flop. Did I play this correctly?

In my personal opinion you played it perfectly given your read on your opponent

      Hey christxof

I agree with JPrates 31. You played this hand awesomely , your bet sizing pre flop is spot on and your bet call line is good.
It is important to keep our loose opponent in the pot which is why I like your raise sizing pre flop. If we had AA or KK I think making it 200 would be better just for re assurance that our loose player wont fold, but 250 is fine.

      Nice hand, Chris.

Is it wrong to set mine in this spot?

We're out of position and if an overcard flops we don't really know where we stand in the hand?

With JJ yes it's a massive mistake, small pocket pairs from 22 - 88 I would like to check my option but with hands stronger than these it's definitely in our favor to be isolating the loose weak player even though we will be out of position.

The reason I ask is I sometimes set mine with hands up to QQ when the blinds are low. If I raise QQ and get a walk then I'm only winning the blinds but by set mining the pot becomes a lot bigger and no-one expects QQ, JJ, TT to be limped pre and I usually get paid.

I can understand the raise in this case but it's the sort of spot where I change a limping hand into a raising hand. I do mix it up BTW but just wondering is it a leak in my game.
