  • dont tell me this was a good call

I have encountered this villain many times and he has a tendency to limp/call with alamost ATC , he always raises the button or SB when folded to him , and tendsto play pretty trash hands .

This was from a Skill league came and we had just got ITM , and with this hand I had decided i was reraising / shoving no matter what ( not too many blinds left ) .Any ,when it is folded to villain I know he is raising ,and most likely ATC ; his min raise seemed weak to me so I deliberated and shoved all in . Now , bearing in mind i had played roughly 20 out of 128 hands at this point I am not shoving with nothing , also taking into account our relative stack sizes . Anyway I shove and he instant calls with this garbage .

Now i may be wrong here but with our stack sizes and my shoving range in this spot this is just a bad bad call .

Cant say i am really surprised that he called , but this league is so infuriating when you continually lose to spanner calls .

    Hi Frasier beams,

You whole message seems to indicate that this player is calling light. At the same time you are claiming this is a bad call.

given how light you know he plays why are you surprised by the call.

The question should be why are you betting 7's here if you know he will call?

    77 against a wide (40%) range is a favorate (55% to 45 %)

    against a 30% range its still a favorate (52 - 48%)

Against a 20% range (which includes KTo) its a dog 49-51%

I would say he play is worse if he folds to your small raise than the fack he called you.

If you would have folded to this villain's open push you should fold in this situation. You have zero fold equity so shoving is the same as calling a shove from this guy.

I would have over shoved in most games, but maybe not a PSO league game depending on what points I needed. But I rarely played league games even when I could.

        Good Decisions!

p.s. It may not have been a good call but given your description of the player it was an inevitable call.

Hi Frasier! You’re probably not going to like my answer, but in my opinion BOTH players made the correct play. Since the bubble has burst, the next point jump in the league games is for a final table. Due to this, the goal now should be to accumulate as many chips as possible, to try to get to the final table. KT and 77 are both speculative hands, not garbage hands. Garbage hands are 27o, 38o, 49o, etc. In this situation, I’d play either one of them. With KT here and their stack size, I would make a std open raise (and be prepared to call an all-in). With 77 and under 6BB, it’s an instant shove (or call of a shove). To shove with 77, it will take 11883 chips into a pot that will be 25566 (46.5%). For the opp to call, it takes 7883 into the same pot (30.8%). Against a typical shove range here (any pair, any A, any broadway), 77 has 55.6% equity. KT has 41.7%. Both of these are higher for the hand equity vs the pot equity, so it is a +EV play for both hands. +9.1% EV for the 77 to shove and +10.9% EV for the KT to call. Unfortunately, the 77 that was ahead 54% to 46% when the chips went in preflop, lost… but in this situation, I’m expecting my 77 to lose basically every other time I’m in this situation. Hope this helps and good luck at the tables.umbup: John (JWK24)

Joe and JWK both beat me here.

No i don't think you should fold here but at same hand i'm not surprised he called with KT either.

its well played on both sides.

              You can't fold 77 with 6BB and he can't raise/fold to shove.

Sorry, it's a good call. Especially blind on blind. Although he really should have just shipped it in the first place rather than induce with K high I think. And your shove is really standard. It happens to be a flip, and with a ton of dead money he's definitely getting the right price against your range.
