  • $3.50 45-Man: TPNK OOP vs. Passive Random; How Do I Play the Flop?

The guy was running something like 13/0, with an Agg% under 10, but only over 20 hands, so it really doesn't mean much.

    Options:

    1) Lead w/ top pair, no kicker. He'll fold most of his range, therefore I'm bluffing. If he happens to be bad, then I'm betting for value.

    2) Check/Call. Basically a pot control line, he has to actually bet the flop for this to work, and he's shown no indication that he wants to. I think this line is good if I cannot reasonably expect to bet or raise for value. This line cedes all control of the hand to the villain, and does not make any active attempt to price out draws.

    3) Check/Raise. Tricky, because if he is limping a tight range and betting nitty postflop, then the range he bets the flop with might actually be ahead of my top pair. This does pressure the villain the most, and it does make draws pay. Since my range is super-wide here, it may be very hard for the villain to put me on a hand as strong as the one I have.

Not sure which line is the best. Any thoughts?

I'd bet it. Without too much info on the guy, I wanna see if we can win the pot here. If not, I'm hoping for a free showdown. But he limped, he could be having anything here, in which case I'd hate to give him a free card.

Hi Panicky! Interesting situation. With the opp being tight/passive, I"m going to lead this flop. I won't be expecting a raise from the opp (very small agg factor), I can get info about their hand, and I can price out the flush draw. If the opp doesn't have a Q and I check, they most likely will too and I don't want to give them a free card if they've got pocket spades. I do want to use as much pot control as possible, as I could be outkicked, so my play will be to bet 1/2 pot here. That way I can price out the flush draw and also to possibly take it down here. If the opp calls, then I'll re-evaluate on the turn. Hope this helps and good luck at the tables.umbup: John (JWK24)
