  • 25NL Zoom: AK; Did I Overplay?

12 hands only on opponent (27/18) When I hit TPTK on flop in 3 bet pot I decide to go with it. Is this ok,considering he opened UTG and check-raised? He could have flush draw or would it be better just to call here and see a turn?

I like 3betting to isolate and for value vs a non-fullstack villain as they are likely to be weaker.

I dislike the flop 3b. We are really overplaying our hand. We only have TPTK. We also block all the hands which may potentially raise as a semi-bluff (KsX).

I would call his x/r and proceed cautiously. Likely folding any non A, K, 3 or spade turn.

      Hi carl,

I agree with birdayy. If the villain were tight over a reasonable sample or solid, flatting preflop has merits, but vs. an odd stacker I too like isolating.

And also agree with the fact we are overplaying otf vs. this check/raise by 3-betting. When the money goes in here, what are we expecting villain to show us? Obviously we're praying for AQ, but likely the only AQ combo that goes nuts on this flop in this situation is AsQs so it has a lot of outs anyway. It's not enough to compensate for the times we get shown AJ, JJ, A3s, 33 and are in a world of hurt.

He could have a few flush draws but like birdayy said we block a number of potential candidates by holding the Ks ourselves. So we're really looking at AQ/ATss and anything worse it uncertain because of how loose it would require him to open UTG+call a 3B, we don't have enough info to know if there's even any other spades in his range.
