  • JJ vs flush draw

Were my bets too big? I figured the villain had a flush draw so I was putting in large-ish bets to make him fold. Maybe I should have dropped that idea when he kept calling me.

What type of tourney was this? The reason I ask is that different types of tourneys need different strategies. If this is a cash tourney, then I want to make a standard value bet on the flop. Bets postflop need to be sized based on the size of the pot, number of opps and board texture. With 2 opps, a standard bet is 2/3 pot. I do not want to overbet. When an overcard comes on the turn, with one opp, if I wanted to bet, I would once again make a standard bet, which is 1/2 pot vs one opp. However, with this being an overcard, I need to check behind and see the river. Betting here, especially a larger than std bet will only get me value owned (fold out worse and get called by better). When the river completes both the flush and straight, I'm checking and hoping to get to showdown. If the opp bets, then I need to fold. Hope this helps and good luck at the tables.umbup: John (JWK24)
