  • Calling off with weak holdings to close action v 1 short stacked opponent

This is an example of a type of situation I have trouble with. I am posting the BB for 1200 which leaves me 16,554 behind A short stack in early position shoves 5,597 for about 5 x BB and it fold around to me. I am last to act and have to call 4,397 into a pot that will be 12,794 I have low suited semi-connected cards - 75 of clubs. I wince at this kind of situation but feel that mathematically, irrespective of opponents tendencies or image I should probably call. The call is a significant part of my stack, but we are already in the money. Should I call off or wait for a better spot? Ed

      Hi HokyPokyToo

I thought Basic Poker Hand section was just for cash hands or tourney hands from Bronze Stars.

      Basic Poker Hand Discussions
This forum is for posting any cash hands from 5NL or lower, or any tournament hands from our bronze star members so that the members can discuss the hands and how they were played.

It is an MTT hand and I do have my Chrome Star.

Still confused with why they want cash and tourney hands in the same section anyway, even if they are basic.

        Ed,

If your stars are hidden, then we don't know how many you have.. so by default, it will go into basic.

          Ed,

IMO, this is definitely a call. The call chart that I use has 2.5 and 5bb for the opp.. you're in-between, so I defer to the tighter range (5BB).

I want to be calling from the BB with about 62% of hands here and every suited combo is in it down thru 34s.

          Due to this, I'm snap-calling.

Thanks John I did actually call, whereas often I am reluctant to in these spots. I know I can call a wide range but I need to get better at working out if my weak holding is in that wide rangeor not. Didn't win this one but opponent had As3c and against that specific hand I had plenty of equity, like 45% - just wasn't sure if I should be calling this all the time. Cheers Ed
