Hi bigdogno! With AJ in the SB, I'm going to either make a standard 3-bet (to 3X the previous bet) or fold. If the opp is known to try to steal from late position, then I'm more likely to raise than fold. I don't want to call here, as by doing so, even if I flop an A or a J, I'll have no clue whether I'm ahead and should be or if I'm behind and should check and fold. In most cases, I'm raising to 120. I flop top pair/top kicker on a very wet board. I'm definitely going to lead here and the key is the bet sizing. Bets postflop need to be sized based on the size of the pot, number of opps and board texture. With 2 opps, I need to bet at least 2/3 pot, but with a wet board, can also bet 3/4 pot. I do not want to make an abnormally large or small bet here. Betting too much will cause all the worse hands to fold and only the better ones to call, so this is something that I don't want to do. On the turn, since I'm now up against only one opp, a standard bet is 1/2 pot, so I will bet 180. Once again, I do not want to make too large of a bet. On the river, I get two pair. Here, I either need to lead and since a standard 1/2 pot bet will pot-commit me (put over 1/3 of my remaining chips into the pot), I need to shove. I don't want to check and be facing a shove when I have no clue whether I'm ahead or not. If I'd check the river, then I need to fold to a shove. Hope this helps and good luck at the tables.umbup: John (JWK24)
