  • 5NL 6-max Zoom - KK, unsure line

Villain unknown. I'm just kind of unsure of my line here. Villain check/raises flop which feels bluffy or probably some kind of draw so I call to keep the bluffs in but from then on I'm a little unsure how to get value from my hand. Turn card doesn't worry me a whole lot so I think calling is best as a raise is essentially turning my kings into a bluff. River is pretty nice so I need to bet for value but here I'm unsure of what size. All advice and thoughts welcomed! Cheers, Chris

    Hi Chris!

When villain check/raises on a flop like this, his holdings are normally weighted towards sets that don't want to see the flush come or semi-bluffed draws, that probably do want to see the flush come . He might also play smaller overpairs like this.

I think calling his check/raise is a good decision because it allows him to continue bluff his draws on the turn and controls the pot size in case he has you crushed.

The turn brings not a good card for you. Now any A-high flush draws have just got there and the sets are still crushing you. Moreover villain doesn't seem to be scared at all and continues firing, but then again he might just feel that the A is a good card to continue his semi-bluff on.

I think raising is out of the question here, but folding is a definite possibility and I'm not sure which is better out of calling and folding. I think on balance I'd probably call the turn and fold to a river bet on a blank/heart river. If he checks back river, I'd just check back and take the cheap showdown.

When villain checks back I don't think he has a set anymore, so he's probably on a busted draw. I think you could either bet 1/3 pot to try and get hands like 88-JJ to call or just shove and make your hand look bluffy and hope that he's taken a weird line with a set that he's never going to fold. My preference would be for the shove as it might also get Ax to call.
