  • 10NL ZOOM, A8s two pair Playing for stacks on raised pot

    - no reads on villain - played without HUD - zoom poker Preflop: - tried to resteal w/ Axs from button steal Flop: - Flopped two pair on wet board, fired cbet for protection Turn - Draws didn't hit, fired double barrel for protection River: - Another brick, pushed AI for value. Question: Was the push on the river correct w/ 2 pair? Is check/call a better option? Or any better way to play the hand?

    Well played.

    Shoving is correct.

      Hi kalahwang,

I think it's fine on each street. I prefer the push on the river readless, as his range at this point in the hand is mostly Ax and busted flush draws. There's not that many combos of busted flushes he can have, and we don't know his willingness to bluff with them, which he may not be. Ax however will probably check down quite a bit, but may call the shove. This is all very read specific on what the optimal river line is obviously, so without reads we just have to make our best guess. Mine is based on his range to get to the river, and the fact that in general players tend to make calling mistakes more than any other kind, so I lean towards value betting the river.

Thanks for the input. Now I know a spot where opponent reads are very important on making a decision and realize there are indeed times even though you played the hand correctly, you'll get stacked. Here is how it ended.
