  • why did i call river

Sorry, this hand was deleted by its owner
there is only 1 question to ask when he bet river , why check the turn?

I don't play this high, but I guess he checks the turn for pot control, hoping to get to showdown cheaply, but when you check behind he thinks you don't have an ace or queen, so he thinks he might have the best hand. The river bet looks like a blocking bet. He wants a cheap showdown, so he's discouraging a bluff by you, but also might get looked up by 77 or or worse. Either that, or he's consciously turning his hand into a bluff, expecting you to fold JJ-99. I think he'd have to bet more than a third of the pot to do that, but I'm not sure what are the standard valuebet sizes at these stakes.

There is more than 1 question to ask, first question to ask is why did you call preflop? 2nd question is where are your reads? I really don't like limping in this position, raise to isolate the limper in position assuming he's a weak player.

I actually think this is a nice spot for you to bet the turn, use your positional advantage when he checks the ace. You're turning your 9's into a bluff but will often get TT, JJ and sometimes even KQ, KK to fold.

I don't get his river bet, probably a blocking bet to get his hand to showdown cheaply but it makes no sense and it's not a good play imo. He should have barrelled the turn imo, there are very few hands in your range that will continue to showdown if he barrels this board texture.
