  • 5NL - TP + FD facing c/r in 3bet pot

Hi there, here's an interesting spot in a 3bet pot I 3bet Q7s on BTN against a 24/18/2 (175 hands) CO opener who folds to 3bet 80% of the time. I'd 3bet here with any two really. My 3bet got called by the BB who is a 30/20/3 (271 hands). And now the CO calls along. Not too happy with my 3bet anymore Flop gives me TP + 3rd NFD. Should I have raised the CO opener donk bet? What do we do now that BB comes over the top?

    Hi geo,

I actually do like raising this donk bet. Generally I expect this type of bet and sizing to be a good 1 pair hand not looking to give 2 players a free card, so something like AQ, KQ. If we raise immediately, it shows great strength, basically repping KK+ in a way that is totally credible for us to hold these hands, and we have real fold equity vs. hands like KQ/AQ. It could also be a draw, but we dominate a lot of the draws. We're a dog to big combo draws but with all the dead money in the pot already it's fine, we're not a huge dog. Same thing with sets, obviously that's a worse case scenario as we don't have outs to a 7 or Q vs. a set, but we still have about 30% even in this worst case scenario. The real key here though is we put specifcally KQ and AQ in a really bad spot where they might fold the best hand (~55% equity against us) and we have plenty of hand equity to fall back on when they make the tough call for stacks. And we dominate some draws that may get it in here as well.

As played not really happy with the BB's response here but I think we have too much equity to fold in this big a pot, so my money is going in.
