  • Am I a big fat Calling Station?

BB is a lag 48 26 and the BTN is a reg. 26 19. I am just curious about your opinion. TY

We've odds for our set on flop and turn so I'm calling down but maybe a 3 bet on flop might push our reg off this?

I'm mainly a STT player in Limit form and not a great cash player so I'd like to hear from someone who regularly plays cash.

In a STT when the blinds are low I'm taking your line but when the blinds are high and I've less than a certain amount of blinds in my stack I'm playing it as a shoving hand even with the A on board. ie.keep raising it to represent the A. I don't mind going broke in this spot in a STT.

      Hi quirked,

I think I would raise directly on the flop after the maniac leads out... 55 is going to be ahead of a bunch of this guys range, and if confronting the reg with 2 bets cold gets him to fold hands like 99-KK then we could put ourselves in a much better equity position where we can actually win the pot some of the time without hitting a 4 or 5 but simply by having the best hand when the maniac hasn't hit and doesn't improve.

I don't agree that once we call the flop bet, and the reg raises, he'll then fold to a 3-bet from us... it would be unlikely anyone would put in the 2nd bet themselves and fold to 1 more bet here. Once he does raise the flop I think the reg is very likely to have a big ace in this spot so now we're drawing anyway. At this point we can call his raise drawing to a 4 or 5 as we're getting 17-1 now and are about 7-1 against catching a 4 or 5 on the turn.

The turn action is much closer. We're getting 11-1 to call on the turn, but our outs are less certain. The 4d may not be an out, and if the maniac happens to have a flush now we're drawing dead. Still he doesn't raise, so we can't assume this. To draw at 5 outs (not counting the 4d any more) we're about 8-1 against. A 4th diamond coming may be good once in a while. And we're getting 11-1 on the call, so I think it's probably marginally +EV to see the river.

Definitely folding the river to any action when we miss.
