  • 2NL FR Axs C-bet

Villain is 69/23/1.5. I'm pretty bad at C-bet and tend to bet too often. I'm not sure whether it's better to bet here or not. I put the bet in because I feel A high might be ahead and I also have a straight draw.

    Hi Bic,

I would c-bet here. I think it's a bet for value since this opponents range is so wide, ace high is good a fair bit of the time. Also if we check we're inviting him to bluff at it, being out of position makes it so much tougher for us. I'm not prepared to fold since we are still good quite often and we have outs if behind, but what do we do then on the turn if we check again and he fires again? And on the river? I think it's generally better to retain the lead in the hand for those reasons.

Also when he calls our c-bet, much of his calling range that is ahead of us will be moderate 1 pair hands like 55, 66, 87, etc... which means there will be a lot of good turn barreling cards for us since most of the deck will either improve us to the lead or be an overcard to his 1 pair hand. If the turn comes a J, Q, or K for instance, we may get him off a small pair by barreling. You haven't given any stats for post flop consideration so if the guy is a total calling station this doesn't apply really, but in most cases it's something to consider... if we c-bet, vs. his flop calling range most turn cards devalue them and make it harder for him to get to showdown, not easier.
