  • 2nl FR Zoom: 88 from UTG folded to raise on the turn

No solid reads on either villain. After he called my c-bet I put him on something like 66+, I wouldn't really expect him to call with anything with a 9, maybe A9s. I decided to check on the turn to keep the pot small, then folded to his bet, since I figured chances of him having a better hand are pretty good. Should I have played this differently? If your answer is: "Don't play 88 from utg", please continue with the assumption that I played from the hijack with villain 8 on the cut-off .

    Hi Garrns,

I don't mind playing 88 from UTG personally, I generally would.

When he donks into you on the flop, I think flatting here is good, certainly he has 9x in his range, but also can be doing this just taking a shot with worse, or on a draw. I'm not ready to give up yet but our hand strength doesn't really warrant raising, so I like calling and using our positional advantage to see what the third player behind us does, what the turn brings, and how the villain reacts to it all. Then when he fires the 2nd barrel on the turn, easy fold. He's not likely to be firing again with air unless he's really spewy, as your flop call with a 3rd player behind actually looks pretty strong. And the big draw, diamonds, got there. Time to pass this imo.
