  • 2NL 6max zoom: can i thin value bet the river?

I usually play K9s from this position because so often the button has fast folded, or folds to aggression because they're only waiting around to steal. I get 2 callers, and hit top pair on flop, I'm always c-betting here for value, some 2nd pair hands can call 1 street, and a draw can as well. Usually giving checking down from turn though. I get one folder and a Q comes, giving me bottom straight, an A has me beat, I decide to continue as I do have some good showdown value, I figure worse can call me, and I can also improve on the river. The river comes a blank and I'm wondering whether I can thin value bet here, or just bet-fold. Or is it better just to check and have showdown?

    Hi Craig

Interesting turn bet. I dont mind it, but you are definitely risking opening yourself up to a raise. Since we have a heart flush draw we have a big incentive to see the river so that we can stack AX type hands. So my default line would be to check back the turn.

Since we have played our hand this way we should target the hands we beat with a value bet. That's going to mean betting a size they are comfortable calling. We are definitely targeting KQ, JT, QJ, type hands. I think against these hands we should bet about 30% of the pot and fold to a raise. Definitely getting pretty thin after betting the turn. Maybe 20%!

If he check-raises the river for absolutely any size we should let it go. even if we bet 6 cents and he makes it 12!

      Thanks Gareth,
I did check behind and he showed up with QT, ill keep in mind about the really small bets like that, just to try squeeze some extra money out of my hands.
