  • 2NL full ring AQoff

The villain was 17/11 over 98 hands...2qw1k was a fish..he could have any two cards..It was a tough spot for me..i thought the villain could have hands like..AX or pocket pairs preflop..the flop bet looked like an A(AK,AQ,AJ,A10,A9s etc) or a set ...which is trying to protect against a flush..My call post flop was encouraged by the Q of spades in my hand..Please comment on my play.. Also what should be the play if it was a 5 of clubs on the river?

I think you played it fine until the turn. Once he bets strong on the turn I think you have to fold. You are crushed by his entire range. Your way behind AK, AJ, a set of 9's or J's, a lower made flush, WAY behind A-K of spade, and dead to KT of spades. Might be a break even estimated value call if there was another dollar in the pot when he bet the turn. The only hands you are ahead of are KQ with the K of spade, and bluffs. I don't expect a random TAG to double barrel bluff here too often.

      Hi Nee0903.

The open raiser is pretty reasonably tight, but if we have him on his full raise range of 11% because he is MP, we are going to be ok a good bit of the time in 3betting him to isolate on the donk. If the fish in on around a 70% call range of our raise (you don't give specific info), and the open raiser flats a 7% range, we are going to have right at the equity we need to break even on a pre flop 3bet.

On the flop, the open raiser's C-Bet is pretty standard, and so is a wide call by the "fish".

I think I would favor a RAISE here on the basis of my top pair/2nd nut flush draw on the order of making it 60c to go. If we drop off ALL under pairs (77/88/TT, except QQ), all non Ks hands, and all AT hands that do not have the Ts from the opener raiser's C Bet range, we have about 55% equity against all the 2 pair, sets, and 1 pair + draw hands he might C-Bet. If we drop QQ from a C-Bet range, our equity is still a little over 50%.

Plus, we are pretty unlikely to get 3bet on a board this threatening, and we may "slow down" the open raiser's bets by making an immediate raise. Obviously, the fish is so wide that we are not really worried a ton about his range with our re-draw, and would probably be willing to play him for his stack...

As played, you pretty much had as much committed to the pot on the turn as a raise on the flop would have cost you, so had the 5s not fallen on the river, you'd be in a very "yuck" spot after the open raiser barrels 3 streets. If I am going to put 80 some cents into a pot, I'd really rather do it aggressively when in position, than do it passively and rely on hitting my card to be pretty sure I hold the best hand when it gets to the river.

      Hope it helps.
