  • first hand in the Open League

Ok so after so many beats with AK all-in preflop, i decided to play this 1 differently and i think it payed off. 1st hand in the Open league AKo, 4x BB raised instead of all-in 2 players called. 3 clubs dropped. I have the Ace of clubs high pair with top kicker. So many big clubs are already out that any guy that would have 2 clubs would already folded to my first bet. Guy with 7 of clubs and Q calls me, with only a flush draw wich I had the higher Ace, so I was pretty safe after that, he either had to hit Q7, QQ or 77 to win. Was this a perfect play in your eyes? (take in mind this is the open league)

Most disturbing in this hand is your prelude "Ok so after so many beats with AK all-in preflop, i decided to play this 1 differently" as what you did here is pretty much standard ABC way to play AK pref. I would opt to raise it to 200 PF but thats the only difference (with 200 your all-in on the flop is a bit more justified). Is it perfect? Not exactly, i would go for c/r on this flop but this is just me.
You do not just openshove AK for 1500 on 20/40 blinds, it's not a good play because you are essentially flipping your stack.

I don't know if it's "perfect", but I think the play was fine, especially given the poor level of play of random open league players.

This isn't right, not sure why you would think this but you got called by Q7o, certainly Q7s is calling and people limp-calling with Q7o are going to be limp-calling with all kinds of suited cards, maybe even any 2 suited.

That being said, while we can't discount the possibility that someone flopped a flush, 2 clubs are actually a small part of their over all ranges and we have the nut flush draw, so I wouldn't worry about it much and would definitely be willing to commit for stacks with top/top+nfd against weak opponents who will easily be willing to stack off worse.

^^This is true too, if you're normally open shoving AK on deep stacks that's not good poker at all.

I like the way it was played. All in you may have 1 call Q7o not bad payout.
At little risk + 4BB bet your payout % better.
          1st hand O/L 4-5 calls norm.

Standard ABC preflop. I'd prefer to check/shove the flop because its hard to get a 2X pot push called, except by better.
