No reads given, I ship 8's with this stack size first in.

Looks like your down to 16/17 players... when down to 10-15 bbs i'm shovin' that like I was lookin at aces. on 10 bbs, By the time the blinds go through you (in two hands) you'll have lost almost all fold equity.

Yep. It's closer being UTG but 11bb's is too short for me to pass a middle pocket pair. We'll get folds some of the time, and when we get a caller we won't always be crushed, we'll more often be called by 2 overs (and I'm quite happy taking a small fav. coin flip on such a short stack) and we'll get called by some underpairs that put us on a big ace. And the fish will call with crap like A-rag sooted too.

            I know I would ship the 8's.

You think open folding 8's is a mistake?

I know I would ship that every time on this stack size.

What kind of read would make you fold here.
Wondering what the op's thought process was when he decided to fold.

Indeed, position is my one and only concern.

When i fold i think to myself that even after folding 88 utg and loosing bb and sb i still have 9bb.
In my case i can assure that i still have good fold equity as i am a regular sng player and have a good image and see my shoves and raises respected (exept by call stations and big time gamblers of course... which i will often beat preflop and allow me to double up back when i shove even with 6-7bb)

Despite this, i doubt i can make fold JJ+ and AQ+ from anyone therefore either the 8 peeps after me all have worst than AQ/1010-JJ (don't know at all if there are some odds about that i can calculate, id be very intrigued to know if theres a way to figure this) either im often beat by the person calling (except for a fish).

For those reasons and because i have often succeeded making comeback from 5-6bb playin this way i folded this 88

Shove it, and hope you are good, there is no other way to play with 10BB.
