  • 3 betting with 78s

    consider this hand:

You're in a 9 table 1/2 no limit holdem. You have a stack of 200. You're dealt 7c8c, utg raises to 8, middle position calls, you're on the button and decide to light 3 bet to 24, both players calls. The pot is now 75. Flop comes Kc9h10c. utg raises to 50, middle position player folds. How do you proceed? and did you make the right decisin by light 3 betting knowing that the opponent utg is tight? You have the smallest chip stack so you're STP ratio would be about .

Why would you 3-bet a tight UTG raiser? With 78 suited why not call and take a flop in position? Anyhow, on that flop, I'd reraise all-in. You have an awesome combo draw. Yeah, you're dead to QJ clubs, but UTG shouldn't have QJ very often.

I agree with ori, I'm not sure how much fold equity you actually have shoving over him on the flop, probably not a lot as his range to lead into you is usually going to be AK+, but you do have a lot of outs to improve. Actually depending on how we range him this might be a fold.

But the preflop 3b is really bad in this spot, you don't want to create a small spr with a suited connector, you want a higher spr in position vs. a tight opener. If you flat and the blinds fold the spr will be over 7 which is much better for your semibluffing flops to leverage pressure on this guy in spots where he might not like committing. If the blinds call the spr will be lower but that's ok too as 87s plays fine in position in a multi-way pot.

What is SPR? Is it the ratio of your stack to the pot?

Oh, k, so then when is it okay to light 3- bet?

Too broad a question. There is no cookbook recipe.

              Better spots are:

-vs villains who open wide, but call tight
              -vs probable steal rasies
-vs villains who will call 3b's wide and play fit or fold on the flop
-in spots where your hand is just below your minimum calling range.
