Could you pick the one or two most important hands out of the bunch?

    Comment

    • #3
probably the 89 suited (1st one) and the QQ (4th one)

      Comment

      • #4
in the QQ one, you really want to be up against only 1 player and the way to try and get there is by pushing. The opps chip stacks are low enough that they almost have to call it and it's a good thing for you that they both have an ace, as it gives one less out for them.

No problems with pushing it, as it's what I'd do in that situation.... you just got unlucky.

The A 10 hand.... you have over 10BB, so you don't need to auto push. If that bet gets called by anyone, you're in deep trouble, because they will be ahead of you and probably have you dominated. It's better just to do a normal raise with it preflop and see what happens.... that way you have the opportunity to fold it if you miss and someone else hits or pushes.

88 hand.... way too much to push. Another situation like the A 10, where you don't want to push, you want to raise and play after the flop. There are way too many hands out there that can beat you and you don't want to lose all your chips with that being the case. Play it, yes, but raise the flop, so you can fold it if you are behind.

AQ hand, same as the 88 and A 10..... you've got way too many chips to push with it. Play it and raise it, but don't blindly push without seeing the cards on the board.

I used to play like that somewhat, before I joined PSO... not doing it as much has helped me alot... both by learning to play after the flop better and it WILL help the bottom line (bankroll) too.

the 8 9 suited hand... that's different. In this one, you're short on chips (less than 5BB left). With a shorter stack, if you are going to play it, this IS the situation that you'd want to push. It'll lower the number of players that you're up against, which will maximize your chance to win with it.

cool, thankyou, i wanted to know whether the 89 shove was the right play more than any of the others, the ace 10 i figured better to shove than raise fold but hear what you are saying.
the A Q yes should of raised not shoved same for the 8's, i'm finding it hard making the right raises at the moment on the tables i have been playing as seems to be 3-4x BB as a standard which then draws shoves or crazy calls anyway, i was pushing as that seems to be the only way to get my bets through but i understand that yes if/when i get called i am way behind many hands with some of the shoves i have made.

on a side note this a hand that recently happened in the PSO league $10 freeroll, i believe i made the right play, although i cannot help but kick myself for it, it also illustrates my point from above.

with the 77, you absolutely made the correct play. That hand against 3 players will win alot less than 40% of the time. It's way, way too early to be calling a bet for that many chips when you know you're behind. You have plenty of time to find a better situation, where you are ahead.

I think you made the right play on every hand except the 88. You have 15 BBs, which is enough that you can raise/fold, especially in PSO (where raise-folding is always an option). Think about the players left to act, their stack sizes and their calling ranges. WIth that big stack acting after you, you may want to just make a small raise to around 1200-1600. Then you can fold if you face too much aggression and still have 11-12BBs.

There are plenty of worse/flipping hands that will call your shoves with AQ and A10 though. And most of the time you're getting a bunch of folds anyway. On the AQ hand there's 775 in the pot so you're adding about 20% to your stack if everyone folds, which is excellent, and again if called you have a strong hand.

Bashy - looks like you're having a nice first month with the PSO Leaderboard! My first month of serious play I think I ranked 11,000th or something

There's some nice money to be made with each Tournament in PSO, but a lot of people keep their eye on the big money that comes from doing well on the leaderboard by raking up points. And with PSO, all the big points come from making the "money" - if you play a lot of turbos, if you were finding it surprising that nobody was calling your raises, that's kind of why ... most of us would love to have a stack the size you were able to get by about your 3rd or 4th great hand, so if we get there, most of us will cool it until after the bubble like JWK said. Like, just play with smaller raises, etc. Definitely not shove into the big stack like oriholic said, etc, because the points are so valuable.

GL with the rest of the month!
