  • great hand?

i added my thoughts later in the thread
i feel this was a decent move,
there was a guy at the table who couldnt get over the push i made and called me names
i tried to tell him about things like math and ICM but he was stead fast
maybe this wasnt a good play at all?
    thoughts?

i was applying some chip stack ideas
this was late in the tourney
100 places away from the cash
no way to slide in to the $$$ as the blinds are too big i feel
i have limited risk here and 10 9 plays well against any ace,
if the big stack pushes i have to bail
this is the kind of move i feel professionals make
if im wrong please share why you feel that way
      thanks

1300 already in the pot, 650 of which u have invested. guy shoves in for 1470, 870 call to u. 870 into a 2770 pot is about 3.2 to 1. therefore, you need a 23.8% chance to win. yeah, this is a good call, especially since ur on the bb and the shover only has 2.5 bbs, so his range is much wider than it might normally be.

They probably gave you some stick because the tens dominate the 10,9 and it led right to the river.

However, you made the right call taking all the factors into account. The short stack did the right thing as well and may have felt it was a bad beat, but if you go all in preflop there is still five more cards to come.

            Disagree.

You are correct, if no one else is in the pot.

Fact is, there is another player who has entered this pot as well. They can raise him out pre to isolate the short stack (btw the big stack limp/folding is really bad poker here). And if they don't raise, he still has to play the pot out of position post flop and his equity vs. their combined ranges may not even be 24% (it's probably close, but he is not guaranteed to get to showdown anyway as there is still more money to bet vs. the big stack). Shocked that the big stack limp/folded, I would not count on that outcome when hero makes the call.

This call is a leak. With no one else in mathematically it's a correct call, absolutely. But with another player having entered, and money still behind to bet, not so much.

its one of those times when you feel you have to make a play in a tourney ..
while you have some chips that can do some damage to opponents
the shortstack gets no respect because he waited for the tens to come
              playing that abc poker
i do not want to be in his position
so i have to get freaky sooner or later
              play some poker
if big stack comes along i have to flop some perfection
i have no problem folding and am sad i missed the flop and now i wait for the hand to shove and double with
i can wait maybe an orbit or two is my feeling
100 from the $$$ and its slow and tight all the way home
there may be some golden stealing opps coming my way
im really gonna hate the antes
i have a relatively solid image UNTIL THIS HAND, lol
so all ins may be respected when i do them......

dave is the man he knows the bees knees!!!

but imo your in the pos points stage you have 1 BB left if you fold even less so minus the SB and ante on you next.

big stack limps so you assume he has junk looking ot build hs stack

so if i did my math contemplated my decision after SB shove i would call his all in and figure big stack is folding anyhow

good call imo you got lucky but hey if the best hand always won poker woudn't be so muh fun right??

I'm sorry, bees and knees aside, I can't understand how we would ever think the big stack is folding. EVER. Limping in and folding to a raise that is barely more than a min-raise, as a big stack, and with another caller to sweeten the pot, is absolutely attrocious. He only has to call 870 into a pot of 4240, almost 5-1 on his money. And in a situation where he has position on a shorter stack, with a 3rd player all in (providing some measure of protection with a dry side pot). His fold is a huge error, even if he limped in with some garbage. Even if we've already identified this villain as fairly clueless, we can not really count on them making this gigantic an error to justify our call.
