  • Omaha 8?

I saw this game O8 and googled it, but it gives me omaha hi/lo? Also in Stars lobby i can only find omaha hi/lo. Is it the same game, as i want to learn it because it seems like pretty fun game.

I'd like to know the difference between the 4 card variants.

PLO Hi/Lo split 8 or better?

CrazYJohnnie yes it is the same game, yes it can be fun but be warned it can hurt.

ForrestFive think you might have an idea but here goes.

PLO the best hand wins, you can flop the nuts but still lose, one of the highest if not highest variance poker games.
hi/lo split 8 or better are same game o8 or omaha hi/lo as its better known, there are 2 parts of the pot to win the high hand and the low hand hence hi/lo , but your aim should be to win both or "scoop" because if you go for say lo only there is a chance your opponent has the hi hand and same hand as you for the lo meaning you get quartered he wins 3/4 of pot and you only get a 1/4.
there is plenty of reading out there about both games.
there will be more knowledgeable people here to help you.

Thanks Anti5ive, I didn't know they were the same game let alone the rules. Was watching a video and think there was a mention of a 6 high straight 6-2 for the hi and a 5 high straight 5-A for the lo. Then was confused about the 8 or better. Thinking the hi must contain an 8 to be a hi. Best I go and look at the rules and lots of examples. umbup:

Well the fun part of it is that mostly people have no idea what they are doing, i read rules for a minute yesterday and then won my first ever hi/lo SNG. Of course, i got it in good with a pushable hand, but villains will call with random single pair and something like 55QT 3suited etc. So thats fun to me, same as aggrofish who called my preflop 4bet jam with J7 for 150 bb at hold em the other day.
So it could be profitable imo if you learn it. Obv turbo SNGs have bigger variance let alone omaha but i like them turbos because of my job schedule and other things i like to do.

after you have played a few watch how many pocket AA instantly shove preflop, some of the play is laughable, about a yr and a half ago i used to play the $1.50 turbo KO's and ran quite well and then i didnt get any better and was invaded by hoards of russians who didnt play omaha and took the fun out of it. but i still have a dabble.
and could be quite profitable if you have the patience and br to beat the variance.

Lots of people get confused by what 8 or better means but it's pretty simple really, just means the lo hand must be five cards with a value of 8 or lower.

It's a pretty fun game and you do get a lot of fish at the micro levels as many aren't up to speed with proper strategy for it. Pretty sure Talonchick made a video about the basics of the game and basic strategy and she had a forum thread a while back where we discussed it a bit (more limit O8 but same diff). Check it out if you're looking for another variant because there's money to be made.

Yeah, thanks for video recommendations Fadyen. Thats what i figured out today, that lo hand must not contain 8, Makes sense tho - 8 or better
