  • US live poker bankroll management and expectation.

    Hi everyone. This is Paid_To_Laid
I am looking to start playing some live cashgames. i am not sure on bankroll management for live poker or expectation either. I recently played in a few tourneys and i've never seen such soft people in my life. I feel that it might be a good time to take $10,000 and go play some live poker and learn and do something that I enjoy. i thoughts on bankroll management for online full ruing is 100 buy in bankroll. I am fairly risk averse when it comes to bankroll management. does anyone know o fliek how i can judge my skill and htel iek come up with an expectation and all sorts of other stuff for poker live. I am not familiar with it at all. hoping i can get some help. I live in West Los Angeles so there are quite a few places to play, also there are home games with the weakest players in the world.

      Hi Paid,

I would start at 1-3nl at least for 100 hours to get a feel for the live game and assess your skill. Live low stakes games are super soft, 1-2/1-3 in LA is like 2nl online in terms of skill level. But the way you phrase your post seems like you're new to this, so 10K isn't that hefty a br. Even at 2-5 that's only 20x 100bb buy ins, with some swings and if you're outmatched, half your 10K can be gone in no time. Also the style of play you choose will impact swings/variance. If you play a loose style, you'll have more swings. If you nut peddle, swings will be small. In the live version of micro-stakes you can actually nut peddle and do well, but a skilled player will do even better playing a more traditional tag style. The games in SoCal last I was there were laggy and wild, so I would plan on a tag approach if they're still the same. After you get some decent hours under your belt, if things are going well and you feel confident, you can put aside some buy ins for 2-5 and take a shot moving up. Probably from your winnings. Then just wash, rinse, repeat.

Hope this helps. This thread really doesn't belong in live training, it should be in poker education, I'll ask the mods to move it.
